JULIE BREWSTER REFLEXOLOGY

Julie Brewster Reflexology

Foot Reflexology - Reflexology Lymph Drainage - Structural Reflexology® Techniques

in Kettering, Northamptonshire

Welcome to Julie Brewster Reflexology

My name is Julie Brewster and I am a fully qualified and insured reflexologist based in Kettering, Northamptonshire. I work from my private and comfortable treatment room which is located on a quiet residential street with ample parking. I offer traditional foot reflexology, Reflexology Lymph Drainage and treatments using Structural Reflexology® techniques.

A few years ago, I was lucky enough to be gifted a voucher for a reflexology treatment and was amazed at how deeply relaxed I felt both during and after the session. As I had more treatments, I began to feel increasingly more relaxed both physically and emotionally, my sleep improved and I realised how much tension I had been carrying in my neck and shoulders. So hooked was I that shortly after, I left my job as a mental health social worker and trained to be a reflexologist. The rest, they say, is history!

Given my previous profession, I am passionate about mental health and promoting healthy emotional well-being. There is plenty of research available which shows that prolonged stress can not only affect our mood but our physical health as well. Likewise, living with physical health conditions can impact adversely on our emotional well-being. Life can sometimes be stressful and reflexology can be a really relaxing and helpful tool for supporting our wellbeing.

Special interest

I have a particular interest in the structure and function of the foot. Pardon the pun, but feet are amazing feats of engineering! A human foot & ankle contains 26 bones, 33 joints, almost 4,000 nerve endings and more than 100 muscles, tendons & ligaments.

Feet are designed to bear the weight of an entire body and it is therefore no surprise that the 52 bones in your feet make up one-quarter of all the bones in your body.

Our feet also support, balance and help propel our bodies forward during the process of walking. That’s a big ask from such relatively small parts of our body and that’s why it is so important to take care of them.

However, sometimes the joints, muscles and ligaments of the feet can become challenged or compromised (most commonly due to ill-fitting shoes). This can affect the way we stand, walk or run and our posture can change as the body tries to compensate for the breakdown in the feet. This can often be felt in the form of pain in the foot or certain parts of the body.

Structural Reflexology® techniques can be very helpful in these situations and I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to train in this area of reflexology.

I hope that you find my website informative but if you need any further information, please feel free to contact me directly. I look forward to meeting you soon

What Is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the theory that different points on the feet, face, hands or ears relate to different parts of the body. The reflexologist uses their hands, fingers and knuckles to work these reflexes to encourage the mind and body to relax and therein improve wellbeing. You can watch the below video for further information.

Reflexology does not diagnose or claim to cure conditions but it can be a very useful support tool for those who live with illness. Whilst it works well alongside conventional medicine, reflexology should not be used as an alternative to medical advice.

About my treatments

As well as traditional reflexology, I offer a number of specialist reflexology treatments, which are outlined in more detail below. Depending on your needs, these treatments can be offered as a complete treatment or potentially combined with other techniques within a treatment.

What can I expect in a treatment?

During your first appointment, I will spend time filling out a consultation form with you in order to gather information about your health and wellbeing and to check that there are no contraindications. This helps me to provide you with an individualised treatment. As a qualified aromatherapist, I am also able to make a foot cream blend which is best suited to your needs on that day.

Once we have completed the consultation, I will ask you to take your shoes and socks off and then make sure that you are comfortable in my reclining chair. I will then wipe your feet and apply the foot cream. The treatment will then begin with a warm up foot massage followed by work on the reflexes. Some people like to zone out or fall asleep during a treatment whilst others like to chat; this is your time so please feel free to do what makes you feel comfortable. The treatment will end with a glass of water and the chance to discuss any aftercare advice or ask any questions.

How can reflexology benefit me?

As everyone is different, it’s not possible for me to say how you might feel after a treatment. However, people often feel more relaxed, sleep better and experience improved mood and well-being. Reflexology can be extremely relaxing and I think it’s fair to say that relaxation can improve how we feel both physically and emotionally. For this reason, reflexology can be a useful tool for supporting people living with chronic health conditions as well as a being a chance to unwind and treat yourself.

The best way to find out if reflexology might help you is to give it a try and see how you feel!

Structural Reflexology® Techniques

Believe it or not, your toes started out like this! However, over time joints, muscles and ligaments of the feet can sometimes become challenged or compromised, which can cause problems in both the feet and other parts of the body.

Structural Reflexology® techniques integrate foot reflexology with massage to the feet and lower legs to help:

  • identify tension sites in the foot and leg
  • release muscle and joint tension
  •  improve foot joint mobility
  •  bring the foot back to a stage that is both functional and comfortable.

Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD)

Researched and developed by Sally Kay whilst working in cancer care, this award-winning reflexology technique focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet with the aim of causing an effect on the lymphatic system in the body. Results from research show that RLD may be helpful in the management of secondary lymphoedema following cancer treatment.

RLD can be used in the same way as Massage Lymph Drainage (MLD). MLD may be useful with conditions such as arthritis, asthma, eczema, chronic fatigue / fibromyalgia, sinus, migraines, headaches, aches and pains and Premenstrual Syndrome.

Massage

Massage can be a great add on to a reflexology treatment:

  • Massage helps release muscle tension in the body and can promote relaxation so combines extremely well with a reflexology treatment
  • Work on the back, neck and shoulder reflexes located on the feet can be complemented by massaging the actual muscles themselves. A two-pronged approach!
  • It's extra pamper time and sometimes we all need that!
